Breaking Free From Generational Iniquity
Part One of Two
As we prepared to enter into the fund-raising season for acquiring our new land and buildings for our church here in Austin, we decided to have a night of prayer and corporate repentance. We wanted to enter into this new season by breaking free from some of the mistakes of the past. The concept was new to some of our members, so before we prayed, I did some teaching on the subject and wanted to share some of those thoughts with our pastorray.com family.
Repentance, for individuals, occurs when we’re truly sorry for our sins and turn away from them to walk with God. Corporate repentance is a scriptural concept whereby a group of people repent for the sins of the group. In corporate repentance, we identify with sins committed by the group with which we are connected. For example, in praying for America, we might pray:
“Father, forgive us for sinful ways: forgive us for taking the life of the unborn, (abortion), and for failing to fight for the rights of minorities, (racial prejudice)...”
